What is a Crisis Nursery?

A crisis nursery provides short-term care for children ages six and under who are voluntarily placed for temporary care as their parent or caregiver experiences a crisis. To further support families, crisis nurseries also provide crisis intervention, counseling, parenting classes, and referrals to community resources.

What Does Jeremiah's Place Do?

Jeremiah’s Place is Western Pennsylvania’s only crisis nursery. We provide judgment-free, 24/7 emergency childcare services for children ages 0-6, all at no cost to families. Children can remain in our care for a few hours up to 7 days, depending on the needs of the family.

No matter the length of a child’s stay, Jeremiah’s Place provides all the essentials to ensure that each child is comfortable and their needs are met. Items provided include:

  • Food
  • Formula
  • Diapers and wipes
  • Hygiene products
  • Toothbrushes and toothpaste
  • Clothing, including pajamas
  • Age and developmentally-appropriate toys and books

When Can Families Utilize Jeremiah's Place?

Jeremiah's Place understands that the meaning of an emergency varies from family to family. Some families have used our services for the following reasons:

  • Medical appointments and emergencies
  • Mental health appointments and emergencies
  • Respite care
  • Workforce development opportunities
  • Work-related crises
  • Childcare and school closures
  • Funerals
  • Court appointments
  • Domestic violence situations
  • Homelessness
  • Military deployment
  • Unsafe childcare options

How Does Jeremiah's Place Provide Crisis Care Services?

To ensure that children are receiving high-quality care, children at Jeremiah's Place are cared for by our Therapeutic Childcare staff members.

Jeremiah's Place keeps a low child-to-staff ratio to make sure that children get the proper care and attention. By utilizing the help of childcare volunteers and interns to assist with children and add a hand to childcare staff, children receive the attention and interactions they need.

At Jeremiah's Place, all interns, volunteers, and staff have their FBI, State, and Federal clearances to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children inside of our facility.
