Jeremiah’s Place Celebrates Opening of First-Ever Second Location in Partnership with Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center

PITTSBURGH, PA — Jeremiah’s Place, Pittsburgh’s 24/7 crisis nursery providing safe, judgment-free emergency childcare for children ages 0–6, today celebrated the ribbon cutting of Jeremiah’s Place–Hilltop, its first-ever second location, located within the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center (COTRAIC) at 201 Rochelle Street in Pittsburgh’s Hilltop community.

The new location expands Jeremiah’s Place’s reach and provides free daytime emergency childcare on weekdays for children ages 2½ –6, giving families another safe and supportive place to turn when they experience an unexpected childcare crisis.

Jeremiah’s Place–Hilltop opened in June through a partnership with COTRAIC, allowing Jeremiah’s Place to bring its crisis nursery services directly into the Hilltop community. The organizations jointly announced the new location and celebrated the partnership at today’s ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“We are looking forward to joining this tight-knit community and offering our services to families who may need a safe place for their children during times of crisis,” said Tammy Aupperle, Executive Director of Jeremiah’s Place. “This new location is an exciting step forward for Jeremiah’s Place and allows us to reach more children and families while building meaningful connections within the Hilltop community. We are incredibly grateful to COTRAIC for welcoming us into their space and helping make this partnership possible.”

Jeremiah’s Place–Hilltop is designed to complement the organization’s main crisis nursery in Larimer, which provides 24/7 emergency childcare. The Hilltop location offers families greater access to Jeremiah’s Place services during the daytime and creates an opportunity for the organization to build relationships with families and community partners in the South Hills.

The ribbon cutting was attended by Congresswoman Summer Lee; Pennsylvania State Representative Jessica Benham; Allegheny County Council Member Jordan Botta; Pittsburgh Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Wayne Walters; Teri Cataldi-Fazio, representing Pennsylvania State Senator Jay Costa’s office; as well as Jeremiah’s Place and COTRAIC staff and board members, funders, community partners, supporters, and members of the Hilltop community.

The opening of Jeremiah’s Place–Hilltop comes at an important time of growth for Jeremiah’s Place. In addition to expanding into Hilltop, the organization is currently renovating a larger main center in Wilkinsburg that will nearly double its current square footage and allow Jeremiah’s Place to serve more children and families. Together, the two locations will expand the organization’s capacity to provide emergency childcare and family support throughout the Pittsburgh region.

“Today is about more than opening a new location,” Aupperle said. “It’s about coming together with a community, building new partnerships, and making sure families know they have somewhere to turn when they need support. We’re excited for all that this partnership with COTRAIC will make possible.”
