The first annual Helping Hands Celebration to benefit Jeremiah’s Place was held at Square Cafe on Thursday night. Jeremiah’s Place is Western Pennsylvania’s first and only crisis nursery.
“Today is eight years since we opened Jeremiah’s Place in Pittsburgh,” said co-founder Eileen Sharbaugh.
The nonprofit’s name comes from a child who was in foster care. “He may not have needed to be in foster care if his parents had the support that Jeremiah’s Place now provides,” Sharbaugh said.
Jeremiah’s Place helps families in critical need of childcare for children 6 and younger. A video shown Thursday featured three families who have benefited from its care.
The event began with a VIP reception on the roof with live music, food and drinks. Guests filled the first floor of the restaurant, checking out the silent auction and the work of artist Cody Sabol. DJ Zoo kept the energy high.
“This is our very first fundraiser other than people touring our facility,” said Dr. Tammy Murdock, a co-founder.
